The local SNP recently took part in the anti Trident protest at the office of Inverclyde MP, David Cairns, on Greenock’s Union Street.
The protest led by local SNP activists, was calling on the Inverclyde MP to vote no in Westminster’s debate on whether or not the UK should spend up to £76 billion on a new generation of nuclear weapons. Tony Blair’s UK government, of which the local MP is a part, is pushing for a new nuclear deterrent to replace the existing one.

Following the announcement that around 100 jobs are to be axed at Ferguson's shipyard, the local SNP have voiced their concern about yet more jobs being lost in Inverclyde.
Jim Macleod, SNP Council Candidate for the yard area said today:
"This announcement is a hammer blow to the workers at Fergusons. We must act now to ensure shipbuiling can be saved on the lower clyde and that jobs can be saved. |

The local branches of the SNP have come together to support Morton football club by buying a new pitch side advertising board at Cappielow. The Port Glasgow and Greenock & Inverclyde SNP activists recently visited the Morton stadium to unveil the new board.
Speaking at the launch of the new board, Jim Grieve SNP council candidate for the Cappielow area said:
"We really thought it was important for the SNP to support Inverclyde's local football team so we have purchased this board in the hope that it helps Morton financially. |

Today it was announced, following a three weeks long ballot that Inverclyde Council tenants had voted yes to transfer their homes from local council control to a private company River Clyde Homes Ltd.
Jim MacLeod, vice-convener of Inverclyde SNP (speaking on behalf of the anti-HST campaign which was led by the local SNP) said: "We are of course saddened by this result. For the last few months we have been out on the streets and in our communities giving the other side to housing stock transfer. |

A recent meeting of Inverclyde SNP has heard how housing stock transfer is going to be damaging to the people of Inverclyde. The meeting was addressed by Luke Henderson who has worked on the 'Vote No to transfer' campaigns in both Edinburgh and Stirling.
The meeting heard how nearly 3,000 Inverclyde homes are to be demolished if tenants vote yes in November's ballot. The meeting also heard how, in areas where transfer has gone ahead, rents have increased and service charges have shot through the roof. |
