Following the announcement that around 100 jobs are to be axed at Ferguson's shipyard, the local SNP have voiced their concern about yet more jobs being lost in Inverclyde.
Jim Macleod, SNP Council Candidate for the yard area said today:
"This announcement is a hammer blow to the workers at Fergusons. We must act now to ensure shipbuiling can be saved on the lower clyde and that jobs can be saved.
"I will be working with my SNP coleagues in the coming days and weeks to do all we can for Ferguson's."
Dr Bill Wilson, SNP Parliamentary Candidate for Port Glasgow added:
"The yard has been under threat too many times because of this innefective Labour Government. We must do all we can to ensure the workers find employment and all agencies and parties must now work together to find a long term future for the yard.
"The SNP fought tooth and nail in 2005 to save the yard and had the backing of our MEP's and MSP's and we will be doing all we can in Government to save the yard" |
