Labour to close Custom House
Thu, 8 Jan 2009

The Inverclyde SNP today reacted with anger at the news that the Labour Government in Westminster has decided to press ahead with plans to close the local Revenue and Customs offices.

Councillor Chris Osborne, ward councillor for the Custom House area said: "Now that the loss of around a hundred local jobs has been confirmed at the Custom House questions need to be asked about how this has came about.

"I simply cannot understand why this Labour Government is adding to the dole queue by axing these jobs. The country is already seeing job losses in the private sector as the economy contracts so the last thing we need is vital public sector jobs going as well.

"In an area where jobs are scarce the last thing Inverclyde needs is another 100 jobs either being lost or moved out of the area. I would urge our local Labour MP to demand that his friends within the London Government reconsider this move and secure these jobs."
