Inverclyde Council: A New Direction?

NEW SITE COMING SOON

Why the SNP?

In May this year the people of Scotland re-elected the SNP to form the Scottish Government. We will be working hard locally and nationally over the coming years to ensure a bright future for the people of Inverclyde. Below are just some of the things the SNP has done for Inverclyde - we know there is lots more to do and we will work tirelessly for the area in the years ahead:

  • The Town Centre regeneration funding designed to spruce up Inverclyde’s town centres:

            Greenock – awarded £1.32 million

            Port Glasgow awarded £600,000

            Gourock awarded £300,000

  • The Inverclyde Royal Hospital – after years of cuts under the Liberal / Labour executive, the SNP have maintained services and Nicola Sturgeon has blocked proposed car parking charges.
  • One thousand extra police throughout Scotland – Inverclyde has got lots of new police officers who are being seen on the beat throughout the area. Crime must be dealt with swiftly if we are to improve the district.
  • Inverclyde’s council tax frozen! Labour increased your council tax by 57% when they were in power – hitting those on lower incomes hardest.
  • New trains now running on the Gourock and Wemyss Bay lines due to funding from this SNP Government.
  • Scotland’s biggest investment in social housing since the 1970s – the Inverclyde area is getting more than its fair share as we try to tackle the appalling deprivation in many local areas. A record £21 million investment in 335 new homes in Port Glasgow with more investment for other areas.
  • Scottish Government grant funding to Riverside Inverclyde of £19 million for 2008 – 2011 and more to come. Where Labour talked a good game on regeneration, the SNP is delivering.
  • Prescription charges will be scrapped this April vs. Labours charge of £7.20 per item in England - the SNP knows healthcare should be a right not a privilege.
  • A new state of the art prison announced for Inverclyde. In 2008 the Scottish Government announced that in the coming years Greenock prison would be replaced with a brand new building – keeping hundreds of vital jobs in Inverclyde.
